The ethics of <em>An Inquiry into the Good</em>: the good is the <em>realization of the self</em> - the actualization of the unified personality’s deepest demand - a self-realization ethic set against both hedonism and duty-for-duty’s-sake, which reaches its height not in the ego but in union and love.
You learned that for Nishida the good is the realization of the self - the development and perfection of the unified personality - rather than pleasure (hedonism) or bare duty; and that the true self, realized fully, transcends the ego into union with reality.
